RESEARCH TRACK

SBQS

The Brazilian Symposium on Software Quality (SBQS) is the main Brazilian forum dedicated to Software Quality. Software Quality is manifested in two complementary and dependent perspectives: Process Quality and Product Quality. With the current heavy reliance on software and aggregated services, research into software quality and its application in products and services is both a necessity and a differential to provide value to organizations and their businesses.

Since its creation, the SBQS has excelled in the exchange of experiences between academia and industry, where researchers, educators, and the Software Quality and Software Engineering practice community meet to present and discuss ideas, experiences, and discoveries with a view to the potential to positively influence the software industry.

Aim and Scope

The Research Track focuses on high-quality technical papers describing original results related to Software Quality that have not yet been published. Papers describing pioneering research results in the area of Software Quality with an academic contribution are expected. The papers may present theoretical and empirical studies as well as Software quality evaluation tools/environments studies. The SBQS encourages the publication of the evaluation and analysis of the results presented in the papers. Results obtained by means of experimental techniques, whether primary or secondary, and qualitative or quantitative analyses are welcome.

  • Articles submitted to the Research Track must fully comply with the format instructions, fit the track's scope, not have been submitted simultaneously to another forum (scientific event or periodical), and not have been previously published.
  • The Research Track adopts a double-anonymous review process (see Anonymization topic in Instructions for Manuscript Preparation and Submission.).

Important: In order to exercise impartial judgment, the track chairs cannot submit to the same tracks they organize. However, the program committee members are allowed to submit.

Review Process

Submissions will be rejected without review if (1) they do not comply with all submission instructions presented in this call for papers, (2) they are outside the scope of the SBQS 2026 Research Track, or (3) they have been submitted or published in any other forum (conference or journal). All other submissions will be reviewed by at least three program committee members. If the submission is accepted, the authors must consider the reviewers’ comments to prepare the final version of the paper.

Papers with a clear acceptance (i.e., all reviewers decided on paper acceptance) during the 1st review and discussion period will be accepted, and their authors will be notified on the date of the 1st Notification. The authors should ensure that all reviewers' points are observed in the final version.

The authors of the other papers will be invited to participate in the rebuttal phase. During this phase, they will have access to the reviewers' comments and may present arguments and responses to comments and questions submitted by the reviewers before the final decision to accept or reject the paper. The authors of these papers will be notified on the date of the second Notification.

The acceptance of a paper implies that at least one of the authors must register to SBQS, including the respective publication fee(s), to present it in person during the event, and that authors must provide extra files required by the organization committee. Additionally, to speed up the publication process, authors of the accepted papers must fill in some forms requested by the proceedings chair on specific dates.

Best Paper Award

SBQS rewards the best papers of each track every year. The Research Track Chairs and SBQS Steering Committee will choose the winning papers from the Program Committee reviews. The award-winning papers will be announced at the event.

Authors of the best papers will be invited to submit extended versions for publication in the Journal of Software Engineering Research and Development (JSERD).

Event registration and participation expectations

At least one author of each paper accepted to the Technical Track must register for and attend SBQS 2026 to present the paper. The author registration deadline is the same as the camera-ready submission deadline for papers accepted to the Technical Track.
