CALL FOR PAPERS – XX WORKSHOP ON THESES AND DISSERTATIONS IN SOFTWARE QUALITY (WTDQS)
SBQS 2023: The 22th Brazilian Symposium on Software Quality
November 7th to 10th, 2023, Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brazil
WTDQS
The XX Workshop on Theses and Dissertations in Software Quality (WTDQS), inserted in the XXI Brazilian Symposium on Software Quality (SBQS 2022), is a forum dedicated to the presentation and discussion of ongoing master and doctoral research on Software Quality in Brazil.
The objective of WTDQS is to provide a constructive environment for discussions, giving students the opportunity to obtain valuable feedback on their work and how their research places itself regarding the existing research on Software Quality. In addition, it aims to stimulate the integration and cooperation of researchers in the area and offer greater visibility to ongoing research for the academic and industrial communities.
We planned the workshop to be online/remote this year. Each submission will be evaluated by three members of the Program Committee. Students shall present the selected papers during the WTDQS. Priority will be given to works in the most appropriate moment to receive this feedback, i.e., works that are not in too early or too advanced stages. During WTDQS presentations, discussions will be held with especially invited researchers from the area, as well as with the community attending the conference. The presence of the advisor during the presentation is not mandatory but strongly recommended.

- Doctoral works in the second or third year, which the thesis proposal (qualifying exam) have been defended or are close to be defended the;
- Masters works with an approved proposal and expected to be concluded in the next 12 months.
Masters or doctoral studies already completed or in the process of being completed (i.e., the defense is expected to occur close, before or after, to the date of the WTDQS) must not be submitted, since at this stage little contribution can be given.
Doctoral submissions must include a Full Paper up to 8 pages, and an Explanatory Video, which is mandatory as the workshop will be online.
Masters submissions must a Full Paper up to 6 pages or an Extended Abstract up to 2 pages, and an Explanatory Video, mandatory as well.
The paper must respect the SBC format (SBC template). The files to be submitted must comply with the following instructions:
(i) Full Paper presenting in a clear and objective way the following topics: research context and motivation, problem characterization, research goals and questions, theoretical foundation, research method (including data collection and analysis techniques), current state of work, related works, proposed solution and evaluation protocol, and expected (scientific and technological) contributions. The topics listed are essential to the paper, but they do not need to be in isolated sections, nor need to be presented in the order they were cited above. In the first page, the paper must also include: name of advisors, course degree (masters or doctoral), starting and finishing (planned) dates, date of the proposal approval (qualifying exam). The format of SBC papers available at http://www.sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/category/169-templates-para-artigos-e-capitulos-de-livros must be used. The paper must be submitted in PDF format.
(ii) Extended Abstract: In the first page, the paper must also include: name of advisors, course degree (masters or doctoral), starting and finishing (planned) dates, date of the proposal approval (qualifying exam). The format of SBC papers available at http://www.sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/category/169-templates-para-artigos-e-capitulos-de-livros must be used. The paper must be submitted in PDF format.
(iv) Explanatory Video: a video of up to 5 minutes to supplement the content of the paper. The video must be presented by the student. The video must be uploaded to YouTube. When uploading the video to your YouTube account, mark it as unlisted so it will be accessible only to those who have the link. The authors should introduce the link at the end of the abstract inside the paper.
Papers can be submitted in Portuguese or English. The full paper and the extended abstract must also contain the title, author’s identification, affiliation, abstract in English, and abstract in Portuguese. Both abstracts must not exceed 10 lines each and must be presented in the first page of the paper.
Papers in a format other than PDF, that exceeds the number of pages, violates formatting and content instructions, or are outside WTDQS scope will not be considered.
Accepted works at WTDQS will be published in the Extended Annals of SBQS 2022, on the SBC Open Lib Platform.
The acceptance of a paper implies that the student must register to SBQS, present the paper at WTDQS, and provide extra files required by the general chair (for example, a presentation video following the format requested). Additionally, to speed up the publication process, authors of accepted papers must fill some forms requested by the proceedings chair on specific dates.
Works must be submitted in the JEMS system.
